How to use PIWIS Tester 3 to enable High Beam Assist for Porsche 991

Question:
How does this work? I know what it’s suppose to do, but do I have to turn it on, or does it go into high beam assist automatically?
I can make it go into HBA and I can see the little dash icon illuminate ( the headlight with an “A”). Is this the only way?
Advice:
Just making an assumption here, but if you leave the high-beam stalk in “low” position, the headlights will stay “dipped”; if you move it into “high” position, the auto function then takes over.
EDIT: Reading the manual it states “The function activates in darkness if the following conditions are present:
-Light switch position AUTO is selected.
-Vehicle speed is more then approx 37 mph (60 km/h).
-High Beam Assistant is activated on the multi-function display in the instrument panel.
See the chapter “ACTIVATING AND DEACTIVATING HIGH BEAM ASSISTANT” on page 120.
-High Beam Assistant on is selected on the high beam stalk.
High beam assist is not available at speeds less then 20 mph (30km/h).”

Apparently Activated or Deactivated remains selected when you turn off the car, i.e. you should not have to reset it each time you climb aboard..
once initiated, it remains functional to speeds as low as 30 km/h (18.7 mph).
I believe the factory thinking is you are supposed to be out of the city/town for it to work, so must exceed 60 km/h to initiate the functionality (the system assumes you are out of town if you are going 60 km/h=37 mph, as EU drivers “tend” to be kind of fastidious about speeds in town).
So you should be fine on your rural country road, as long as you don’t have to *****-foot around the bends!
Question:
Most people seem say the standard headlights are bixenon 25W. However with the “Bi-Xenon Headlights in Black incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS)” ($690) option they are 35W. Does anyone have any proof that the two are different?
Answer:
In Europe, any headlights putting out a certain number of lumens require both headlight levelling and a washing system. The standard (non-PDLS) lights lack the headlight washing nipples, so I suppose that’s evidence the light output is inferior.
the bulb for non-PDLS cars is 25W and the bulb for PDLS is 35W, and the above-mentioned reason is why PDLS includes headlamp washers. I can’t imagine why the GT4 would be any different from the other Porsche models in this case in bulb specs. Fwiw, the German GT4 catalog PDF specifically says that PDLS includes 35W bulbs on Page 23, although it doesn’t say that the standard is 25W.
Question:
It is stated in the catalogue that the regular system has 25W and the PDLS has 35W. What happens if you just upgrade the bulbs from 25W to 35W in the regular system?
I was wondering that myself, but I haven’t seen anybody talk about doing that. I suppose it’s possible the connector is a different size that physically prevents it, but even if it’s not, if the circuitry for the headlamp is also different when PDLS is optioned, then putting a higher-wattage bulb into a socket that isn’t designed to support it might shorten the life of the bulb and/or burn out the circuitry.
Answer:
That is true for 12V systems to an extent. Keep in mind that in Xenons you have a ballast that steps up the voltage tremendously. I’d be more worried about the supply lines, connections to or the ballast itself than the bulb. The other thing could be a sensor that can be controlled, adjusted via PIWIS III, thereby throwing a code.

How to use Thinkdiag OBDII Diagnostic Tool

Part1.Setting up your THINKDIAG device for the First-time
1. Download ThinkDiag App:
Search “ThinkDiag” in App Store or Google Play. ThinkDiag App is FREE to download. (as shown in the figure below)
2. Sign In or Sign Up:
If you already have a Thinkcar Tech account, please sign in with your Thinkcar Tech account; If you do not have one, please sign up for an account. Please note that one Thinkcar Tech ac-count is common for all products from Thinkcar Tech company.
How to Sign Up for an Account:
Open the ThinkDiag App, click on “Sign Up”. Input your username, email, and verification code (which will be sent to the email you input), then create your own password. Click on “Sign Up” and finish.
3. Activate a ThinkDiag Device:
After the registration, there will be a notification of “Activation Code”. Click on “OK” to open the activation page, you need to input the serial number and a 8-digit activation code of your ThinkDiag device.
4. Download Diagnostics Software:
After the activation, go to “ThinkStore” to download diagnostics software. Each ThinkDiag de-vice comes with 2 FREE diagnostics software for one year. Please select the software based on your vehicles, and download the corresponding software.
5. Insert the ThinkDiag Device into OBDII port in Your Vehicle:
Usually, the OBDII port is located under the dashboard, above the pedal on the driver’s side. Here are the 5 common positions of OBDII port (as shown in the figure below). Insert the ThinkDiag device, there will be a green light which indicates the device is powered on.
6. Bluetooth Connection:
Open the ThinkDiag App, it will automatically search to activated device and connect via Bluetooth in the App.

One annoying aspect is that I have to disconnect Bluetooth to the car stereo while I use it, but that just comes with the territory. This may not be the case with other vehicle stereo systems. Fair price. High recommendation from me.

I do have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid which indicates it is connected to the device, but for some reason the app does not see that I have a check engine light on, nor does selecting the option to clear the C E light make it go out. However that is a very old car and I don't doubt that has something to do with it.
Overall I am very pleased with the NEXZSCAN and should add that it also was delivered very quickly!
3.I have one of these in every car so no matter what happens I can connect and see whats going on. The interface is well done and easy to manage. You will need to understand a lot about cars to understand everything this has to offer but for general use and my limited understanding its still an excellent tool. I was able to delete some old error codes that had been fixed. This way I can see if they come back and can continue to troubleshoot the issues. One of my cars was having motor issues and I was able to tell the mechanic what it was showing when it happened. He told me that it was super helpful information.
3.To start with there is a sheet of paper inside the box which has a serial and registration number on it. You don't need this and it was apparently inserted for the IoS and Android software originally but is no longer required. The box has excellent read times and is geared for more of a novice or intermediate user. You can read almost all internal sensors in real time along with logging them for shop use. You can read and reset engine faults with ease on top of seeing when your car enters closed loop from open loop. The form factor being so small on an obd reader is a huge pro also.
4.I got this because my car keeps turning in the check engine light and I figured it would be a good idea to try to figure out what was wrong with it before taking it to a mechanic. After I plugged NL50 into my car, it took a couple of tries to connect it to my phone, but now it's connected I can access all sorts of information. The app that comes with the scanner gives you options to determine the engine failure code, it lets you attempt to turn off the light if you're doing the repairs yourself, check the general health if the vehicle, and more. It is a tad bit pricey, but the app that it comes with helps make up for that.
